During Jun 7-9 every year, Chinese high school students need to enter their college via college entrance examination. Chinese government has recovered college entrance examination since 1977. So it is 40 anniversary this year. As you knew, college entrance examination was a hard challenge to about three generations: our parents generation/our generation and our next generation. During examination season, the social resource need to focus on ensuring examination run smoothly. It has exhausted too much social resources/effort/time/money. Not only the students and their parents, but also police/school/books producers etc. Frankly speaking, i don't think it is a healthy talent selection system. 

In fact, if there are enough channels which every talent can enjoy fair competition in China, i think college entrance examination will be not able to attract so much attentions from public. For example, if enterprise/government/organizers etc are able to select talent as per their own capability instead of their education background only, then we can reduce the popular level of examination step by step.
